Kaizen - means change for better
Kaizen is the process of continuous improvement.
Small changes for improvement makes the process more efficient and effective.
It involves all employees from the top to bottom.
Kaizen focuses on simplification of the complex process by breaking them down into their sub process and then improving them.
The kaizen focuses on the use of
- Value added and non value added activities
- Wastage (overproduction, delay, transportation, inventory, defective parts, wasted motion, processing)
- material handling
- motion study
- Documentation of SOP
- 5S
- Use of visual displays such as posters bulletins etc
- Poka yoke (find and eliminating errors/ avoid mistakes/ mistake proofing)
- Team effort on problem solving
- Just in time principle (JIT - objective of JIT is to improve process efficiency by eliminating waste )
Kaizen is a culture that encourages suggestions from operators who work at the floor level and on the product. This employees

for example if a computer operator wants his chair to be changed for economic reasons then it it is done immediately, the change

Kaizen can be classified into two
- Flow kaizen
- Process kaizen
